Asteroid names

Two names for asteroids discovered from La Cañada have been assigned by the MPC :

The following citation is from MPC 76677:

(263613) Enol = 2008 GM1
The remains of a glacier, Lago Enol is a gorgeous mountain lake in the
Parque Nacional de los Picos de Europa.

The following citation is from MPC 76677:

(269300) Diego = 2008 SB82
Diego Rodriguez is a Spanish astrophotographer and co-founder of the M1
group of variable-star observers. He contributes to the search and follow-up
of all sorts of transient sky phenomena. His enthusiasm has motivated and
inspired many observers.

The accelerating expansion of the Universe

The Nobel Prize in Physics 2011 announced on 4 October 2011 was awarded "for the discovery of the accelerating expansion of the Universe through observations of distant supernovae" with one half to Saul Perlmutter and the other half jointly to Brian P. Schmidt and Adam G. Riess.

Paradoxically, they were trying to measure the deceleration rate of the expansion of the Universe

In spite of the nearly full Moon (12-Oct-2011) this will be an interesting event to watch and try to record on photo/video.

[SPMN] Tormenta de Dracónidas

    Apreciados miembros de la lista,

 

La próxima noche del 8 al 9 de Octubre de 2011, que justo coincide ser la del sábado al domingo, podría ocurrir uno de los acontecimientos astronómicos más importantes de la década: una tormenta de meteoros. Diversos nodos de la Red de Investigación sobre Bólidos y Meteoritos (SPMN), en particular elInstituto de Ciencias del Espacio (CSIC-IEEC) y el Laboratorio de Estudios Geofísicos Eduard Fontseré (LEGEF-IEC) , estarán muy pendientes de esa lluvia meteórica y la aprovecharán para seguir divulgando este curioso e interesante fenómeno, una prueba de la contínua aportación de material cometario a la Tierra.
